Helene Upgrades to Hurricane, Florida Theme Parks Prepare for Storms
Hurricane Helene has officially formed, raising alarms along the Gulf Coast of Florida. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued storm surge and hurricane warnings for the region, as the storm continues to intensify. Models predict a potential landfall as a major hurricane in the Big Bend area, but even inland areas like Orlando, home to popular theme parks Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, are under a tropical storm warning and can expect to feel the effects of Helene.

While the center of the storm may not directly pass through Central Florida, the region is bracing for heavy rain, flooding, gusty winds, and potential tornadoes. Tropical moisture is already surging into the area, and the NHC warns of significant rainfall that could lead to widespread flooding.
Currently located about 500 miles south-southwest of Tampa, Helene boasts maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. The NHC forecasts its movement across the eastern Gulf of Mexico over the next two days, with a potential landfall on the Gulf Coast late Thursday.
Central Florida residents and visitors, including those at Disney World and Universal Orlando, are urged to remain vigilant and stay updated on the latest forecasts and advisories. Both theme parks have comprehensive hurricane preparedness plans in place and are closely monitoring the situation. However, guests should anticipate potential disruptions to park operations and be prepared for adverse weather conditions.
