Avatar quiely removed from Disney+ ahead of re-release in theaters

The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 Avatar movie will be hitting theaters this year. However, Disney+ subscribers noticed a big surprise this week after seeing the Avatar movie quietly removed from streaming!

For quite some time, Disney+ subscribers could watch James Cameron’s sci-fi adventure as many times as they wanted from the comfort of their couches. Unfortunately, if you were waiting until the last minute before rewatching Avatar ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water, the movie is no longer available. Removing the classic is probably motivated by its re-release coming to theaters in late September.

There was no advance notice given regarding the removal of Avatar from the streaming service. However, there’s another possible explanation here; it could be that Disney+ plans to upload the remastered and improved edition to the streaming service prior to the sequel hitting theaters.

James Cameron’s first follow-up to his “Avatar,” the highest-grossing film of all time, will open in theaters on December 16. Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet. To whet audiences’ appetites, the studio will re-release “Avatar” in theaters on September 23.

It has been a long wait for fans of Avatar as the sequel has been delayed multiple times. However, 20th Century President Steve Asbell promises that the new movie will come to theaters this December 2022.

It’ll be exciting to see what the next chapter holds for audiences in this movie franchise!
