Spider-Man: No Way Home passes Avatar to become third-highest-grossing film in domestic box office

Spectacular news for fans of Marvel’s iconic wall-crawling superhero! Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially passed Avatar to become the third-highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. The film’s domestic box office now stands at $760.9 million, surpassing Avatar‘s $760.5 million.

This milestone comes after a solid $1.615M Valentine’s Day haul at 3,300 theaters for the Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Spider-Man: No Way Home accomplishes the feat in 60 days, in the ninth week of release off a pure theatrical window.

The film has also become the second-highest earning MCU film to date, second only to Avengers: Endgame. The film also became the first movie since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019 to earn over a billion dollars at the box office and the highest earning film since the COVID breakout in 2020.

The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and  Marisa Tomei all reprising their roles from the previous Spidey films, with Benedict Cumberbatch joining the fray as Doctor Strange (but maybe don’t call him “Stephen,” that’s weird). Joining the cast to reprise their roles are Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Macguire. The film is directed by Jon Watts, and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers; the film is produced by Kevin and Feige Amy Pascal, and executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will become available for purchase on digital platforms beginning February 28, 2022, with pre-order now available on Apple TV, Movies Anywhere, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
