From 1989 to 1997 beloved actor and comedian Bob Saget hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos before passing along the host mic to the show’s first co-host team, Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang in 1998. On Sunday, January 9, 2022, Bob Saget’s family announced he had passed away while resting in his hotel room in Orlando, FL. Saget and his wife had been traveling for his stand-up comedy tour when he passed away suddenly on their trip.

To honor the late host, the January 16th episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos featured a special segment showcasing some of Bob’s funniest and favorite moments from his time as the AFV host. Soon after executive producer Vin Di Bona came to the realization that one episode was not enough to encapsulate what Bob meant to the show, so it was announced the remainder of season 32 will feature a tribute segment in honor of Saget.

“I’d forgotten how whimsical and crazy his host bits were — very physical and very visual,” Di Bona shared with Variety. “In one show he walks on stage in front of the audience and says ‘Did I tell you it’s my birthday?’ And the audience all raises their hands with wrapped gifts for him. It’s that kind of gentle crazy humor that I want younger generations to see from him.”
