Marvel fans were surprised to hear Mahershala Ali make a brief vocal appearance in a post-credit scene for Eternals featuring Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman contemplating wielding the Ebony Blade given to him from Whitman’s estranged uncle. During a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, Ali shared how he felt about the brief cameo and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as how he is preparing for the physical appearance in his upcoming movie, Blade.

“Like I was losing sleep over this line because, ideally, you want to be talking once you are filming. And 100% of the times, my first day on any set, on any job, I hate it. Like, I hate how I sound, I don’t believe myself, you know, and so you’re trying to like get comfortable in the character. So to have to talk before you’re even actually filming was challenging, but I’m grateful for it, because it made it feel real. I made it… It’s like ‘Okay, now we’re going.'”
Mahershala also confirmed he was already on a strict fitness regiment from a Marvel Studios hired personal trainer. “Yeah, I gotta get swole and jacked,” Ali shared with Colbert during the interview. Check out the full interview from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert below:
Bassam Tariq has signed on to direct, with Stacy Osei-Kuffor (HBO’s Watchmen) penning the script for Marvel Studios. Mahershala Ali will be leading the film, with Delroy Lindo (The Harder They Fall) cast in an undisclosed role rumored to be portraying Blade’s vampire-hunter mentor Abraham Whistler from the comics.
