Next time you visit Epcot, make sure to stop by The Seas with Nemo and friends and explore the aquarium as sea urchins, sharks and other friends join the most magical celebration on earth.
The aquarists created 3-D Mickey ears and placed them in their environment so animals could naturally pick up the objects for decoration or camouflage and it was a success. The marine friends loved the idea and joined the celebration immediately!

Did you know sea urchins are actually very important for the ocean’s ecosystem? They are near extinction in the northern Bahamas and is causing local reefs to be greatly diminished. These creatures feed on a certain type of algae that without their aid would cover the corals and block out the sunlight that corals need to grow.
The scientist of Disney’s ASE team are already working on restore the reefs by translocating these crucial sea urchin grazers and transplanting living coral fragments too from coral reed nurseries.
