Avast ye, matey! Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions, certainly, one of its most iconic as well, and Disney is making sure it stays well-kept. That doesn’t just mean dusting off the old pirates from time to time either. The mainsail that boasts the ride’s name out front needs upkeep too. After all, it’s the part that endures the most weather-related wear-and-tear. And so recently, the mainsail/sign has been repainted and is as good as new!
To quote a Cast Member “It’s brand new! Freshly painted for you!” Our selfies in front of the famed ride have never looked better. It’s no hornswoggling to say that Pirates of the Caribbean is a Walt Disney World staple. Though it first opened in Disneyland in March 1967, it was imported to the Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland soon after Walt Disney World’s opening in 1973. Walt Disney himself personally dreamed up and oversaw the project in California. However, he died just three months before it opened. Other versions of the ride also exist in Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Even Shanghai Disneyland has its version, though it’s influenced heavily by the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise. The original four rides came before the development of the films and were the inspiration for said projects.
Will you be heading to the Magic Kingdom soon? If so, don’t forget to ride the classic “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride! And take a picture of the newly-refurbished sign. It won’t be new for long!
