California’s stay-at-home order was due to expire yesterday but has now been extended for most of the state. The order will remain in place throughout Southern California for the foreseeable future.
Yesterday California recorded its highest number of new coronavirus infections in a single day. Officials also expect another surge in the coming weeks.

“If we are to get through this, the gatherings must stop and strict precautions must be followed by businesses that have been allowed to remain open,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis said. “This is a dire situation — one that we avoided up until now and, frankly, one that we know was preventable because we’ve prevented it before.”

As a reminder, the following businesses are forced to close under the stay-at-home order:
- indoor recreational facilities;
- hair salons and barbershops;
- personal care services;
- museums, zoos, and aquariums;
- movie theaters;
- wineries;
- bars, breweries and distilleries;
- family entertainment centers;
- cardrooms and satellite wagering;
- limited services;
- live audience sports; and
- amusement parks
These restrictions have a three-week lifespan and can be lifted after the three weeks. However, there is a good chance it will be extended again.
