Complete List of Confirmed and Rumored ‘Star Wars’ Projects In the Works at Lucasfilm. Star Wars fans are in for a treat! Despite the ending of the Skywalker Saga after the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker there are plenty of projects still in development at Lucasfilm. Here is a comprehensive list of both confirmed and rumored Star Wars projects set to make their way to theaters or premiering exclusively on Disney+:
The Mandalorian: Season 3 (Confirmed)
Currently, season 1 and 2 of The Mandalorian are streaming on Disney+, but a third season is already on the way! Reportedly, actor Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) has shared that the highly popular series is already set for a fourth season as well. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Din Djarin and his allies.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Film (Confirmed)
Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) joins Lucasfilm as the director for the new Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film, with Jenkins sharing that Rogue Squadron will be “the greatest fighter-pilot movie of all time.” Currently, Rogue Squadron is scheduled to premiere in December 2023.
Andor Disney+ Series (Confirmed)
Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) will be at the center of this Star Wars: Rogue One prequel series. “Andor follows the adventures of Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor, which he originated in the 2016 film. The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series (Confirmed)
Rian Johnson Star Wars Trilogy (Confirmed)
Though an exact timeline and plot have yet to be revealed, Lucasfilm has given Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson his own trilogy in the Star Wars Universe. It is currently unknown when and where these films will premiere, be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates on these titles!
Marvel’s Kevin Feige Star Wars Film (Confirmed)
Minimal details are available at this time, but we do know that Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige is set to develop his own Star Wars story for Lucasfilm. Given his knack for storytelling, we can’t wait to see what Feige has to offer!
Taika Waititi Star Wars Film (Confirmed)
Reportedly, filming is already underway for Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars film. Waititi made his mark on Star Wars with his work on The Mandalorian, with his episode being one of the highest rated episodes of the series, it comes as no surprise that the Oscar winning director would dive into a new film for Lucasfilm.
Two Untitled Films (Confirmed)
Currently, Lucasfilm holds two release dates for December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027. It is unknown if these films will be Star Wars related, or may be taken by other Lucasfilm projects in the works.
Cara Dune ‘The Mandalorian’ Spin-Off Disney+ Series (Rumored)
Reportedly, Gina Carano (Cara Dune) will be getting her own The Mandalorian spin-off series with rumors stating she will be joined by Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze in a dynamic duo series. This is strictly a rumor at this time, but after the events of Season 2, we would love to see more Star Wars stories about these heroic heroines!
‘Star Wars: Rebels’ Animated or Live-Action Sequel Series or Film (Rumored)
Several animated characters featured in Star Wars: Rebels have made it into the live-action scene in The Mandalorian, but does this mean more Rebels is on the way? The animated series left a lot of questions that Star Wars fans want answers to, like “Where is Ezra?” “How did Moff Gideon get The Darksaber from Bo-Katan?” and so much more. There is a good chance we will get to see more characters from the Rebels stories in the various live-action series coming to Disney+, but there is always hope that the animated series will get its own chance to share the spotlight! (I smell a Mandalore series or film in the works, just saying)
J.D. Dillard Film Star Wars Film (Rumored)
Reportedly, J.D. Dillard was in talks with Lucasfilm to create a new Star Wars story, but there has been no confirmation from Dillard or the studio in regards to these conversations. We’ll have to wait for more information to come on this one.
Star Wars Detours Animated Series (Rumored)
Before the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, an animated Star Wars series called “Star Wars Detours” was announced at the Star Wars Celebration VI in 2012. Reportedly, Disney didn’t like the idea of a humorous animated series by the Robot Chicken creators being the first introduction to the Star Wars Universe for a new and younger generation of fans, so the series has been shelved for nearly a decade. Rumor has it the series may get a second chance on Disney+, but no official announcement has been made by Lucasfilm at this time regarding the fate of Detours.
