A recent report is showing how there’s been multiple insurance claims for injuries sustained at Universal’s Volcano Bay waterpark.
An insurance company argues that it shouldn’t owe money for injuries at Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay, revealing in court documents there are 73 injury claims involving several slides since the water park opened three years ago. But what about potential lawsuits?
Out of those claims, at least nine people have sued Universal Orlando Resort. The Orlando Sentinel confirmed these numbers after a review of Orange Circuit Court records.
An Orlando attorney, Varun Ramnarine, went on to comment by saying:
“For them to have this many claims in a short period of time is troubling. It’s a brand new water park.”
“Not every injury results in a claim … These are just the claims that are reported. Who is to know about the stuff that doesn’t get reported?”
Volcano Bay is one of the busiest water parks in the world. More than 5 million visitors have gone since the grand opening in 2017 according to Themed Entertainment Association/AECOM. It’s a popular destination to those who enjoy Universal Orlando theme parks.
Also, Admiral Insurance Co. insures water slide designer ProSlide Technology, a key builder of Volcano Bay rides. The Orlando Sentinel reveals how Admiral filed a federal lawsuit this month against ProSlide and Universal. It’s asking the courts to declare the company not responsible for covering Volcano Bay claims.
At the time, Admiral’s attorneys decline to comment. Also, Universal did not respond to a request for comment. We will follow up with more information when news becomes available.
