We hope you enjoy these Magical Disney Sunrises from Chip and Co fan Ashley!
Disney vacations are often synonymous with jam-packed, adventure-filled days zipping from park to park with barely a breath to spare in between. It’s these very trips that bring with them a lifetime of memories and subsequently, at least a few days of exhaustion. It was only natural that I would one day hope to add a little bit of rest and relaxation to an otherwise relentless (yet fun) vacation.
On a chilly morning in December 2016, I unexpectedly discovered that sunrise at the Grand Floridan Resort brought me enough zen to last an entire Disney day. Though I theoretically should have been asleep for another few hours, I randomly awoke at 4 a.m. and found myself peering out the window to a beautifully desolate resort. A gut instinct told me to take advantage of the quiet and head outdoors.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Sunrise
Sunrise, in general, is a time of day that most people happen to miss. It’s especially low on the list for those looking to sleep off the 22,000 steps they walked in EPCOT the day before. But, to experience the magic of these resorts while the world sleeps is perhaps the best-kept secret of any Disney property. I felt as if I had the entire Grand Floridian resort to myself. I sat in the sand and watched waves lap on the shore, listened as the monorails hummed to life, and took in the dewey smell of nearby plants. I observed cast members tending to the pools, perfecting floral displays, and opening up the kitchens for early risers.
Disney’s Fantasy Cruise Ship
And, as the sun began to crest over the horizon, I could hear melodies from Main Street being carried through the wind, I watched boats bob awake in the glistening water, and I could feel the energy of the day upon me. There was something indescribably special about experiencing this time of day at Walt Disney World. That feeling has guided me to film at 14 other Disney properties around the world including Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii and Disney’s Fantasy Cruise ship and Castaway Cay.
Disney’s Aulani
Every resort I have had the pleasure of filming at has been uniquely different from the last. Disney’s Vero Beach stands out to me, as I was able to capture sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs and observe as the little ones hatching scurried into the ocean. My Castaway Cay experience was serendipitous, as I happened to be in a room on the correct side of the cruise ship to observe the full docking procedures. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge was a tranquil experience and rendered a laugh when I heard them turn on the cricket sounds in the early hours — I thought they were real!
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Regardless of the specific location, waking up for the sunrise at any Disney property is a memory you won’t soon forget. It almost feels uniquely tailored to you and just adds that bit of magic to an already special trip.
