Fans Want Disney to Release ‘Mulan‘ and Marvel Studios ‘Black Widow‘ on Digital or on Disney+. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, films set to release in March, April, and May have all been postponed to a later date. To help ease disappointment Disney released Frozen II on their new streaming service, Disney+ and pushed up the Digital release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to help entertain fans in the meantime.
Two of the most anticipated titles, Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Widow‘ and Disney’s live-action ‘Mulan‘ were set to premiere in theaters in March and May, but it seems the films will be pushed back either sometime in Summer 2020, and possibly even later in the year. This push in scheduling will definitely cause delays in the release of future Marvel Films so they do not oversaturate the market and lose out big time at the box office, and fans have asked Disney to consider an unprecedented option for the entertainment conglomerate. Disney and Marvel fans are asking Disney to release the films either directly to Digital or to begin streaming them on Disney+ as a surprise to fans during coronavirus quarantines.
I will be the first to say I will be SHOCKED if Disney decides to do this, particularly releasing the films via Disney+. Forgive my soap box moment here, but I am going to take it and I think it’s worth the read.
Steps on Soap Box Should Disney decide to bite the bullet and release the films it makes much more sense to do so via digital release if anything, because then the studios wouldn’t be bleeding as much money as they are right now with production cancellations and delays. Secondly, and I’m sure less focus driven, is the amount of disappointment this will mean for the casts and crews of these films. They all worked VERY hard to bring us these movies and are beyond thrilled to bring us these tales as they were meant to be witnessed, meaning in theaters with proper sound equipment, lighting, screen size, and with fellow audience members and fans. The films would likely not be as impressive if they were released for at-home viewing. I personally hope Disney decides to just delay the theatrical releases because I believe that is how they are meant to be introduced and viewed initially. Nothing beats going to the theater for premieres, laughing and crying together, and getting to witness these stories with other people joining in on the experience. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Steps off Soap Box
Now that I am off my soap box, here are what other fans are thinking as shared on Twitter:

"If #Frozen2 can stream to homes early, why not just put #Mulan on Disney Plus now, instead of in theaters at some future undetermined point?" asks @awallenstein https://t.co/9JElwJkRy5 pic.twitter.com/a9vhjTPWow

@MarvelStudios @Disney @disneyplus @Marvel For the sake of my heart and sanity… Please follow suit with other movie releases and release @theblackwidow straight to digital instead of postponing 😭😩🙏

Okay, okay. That last one made me giggle, hehehe. Either way it will be interesting to see what Disney decides to do, but I would not hold out hope for a release on Disney+… Digital release, maybe… we shall see! Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Disney and Marvel!
