Construction Continues On New Parking Garage For Disneyland In Preparation For Galaxy’s Edge Opening

Anyone who’s visited Disneyland on the weekends in the summer knows that parking can be difficult at times.  The opening of the Mickey & Friends parking garage in 2001 (the largest in California at the time) can be packed to the brim on popular park days.

Currently, a new garage is being built that will create a space for an additional 6,500 cars.  With construction underway, you can see the installation of escalators to bring guests down from the higher levels.  There will also be a pedestrian bridge that will allow guests to walk over Magic Way and right into Downtown Disney District.

In addition to the new structure, Disneyland is also beefing up the existing parking options in preparation for the record crowds arriving for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.  Mickey & Friends garage began the installation of parking sensors in January, that will tell guests if there are empty spaces and on what floor to find them.

Drivers will see a green light when a spot is available, and digital displays on each floor will indicate how many spaces are available.  The installation of the sensor system takes weeks to install and test, but officials hope to have it all up and running by June.

Currently, in addition to the Mickey & Friends ramp, the Toy Story Parking area, accessible from South Harbor Boulevard is another alternative.  Find current Disneyland parking information here.
