Ed Catmull, President of Walt Disney and PIXAR Animation Studios since 2006 has announced he will retire next year.
Catmull, age 73, first began with Lucasfilm’s computer division in 1979. He was hired by none other than George Lucas. In 1986, he co-founded PIXAR with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter. He has overseen numerous films, including Disney’s Frozen and Disney/PIXAR’s Up.
Bob Iger, Disney’s Chairman and CEO said in a statement that Catmull’s impact on the world of entertainment has been “immeasurable.”
No replacement has been named as of yet. Catmull will remain in an advisory role for Disney and PIXAR through July of 2019.
