Are More Attractions Heading to Pandora - The World of Avatar, Animal Kingdom?

The rumor mill is up and running with possible additions being added to all four Disney World Parks with the 50th Anniversary of Disney World right around the corner in 2021. Even though Disney just invested millions of dollars into Animal Kingdom with the addition of Pandora – The World of Avatar, there still might be more to come to the animal-themed park.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the rumored changes:

Pandora – The World of Avatar

This section of the park has only been open for less than three months and talks of expansion are already circulating. The new Avatar-themed Land opened to much fanfare and even even longer lines. (Would you wait five hours for Flight of Passage?!) Disney may be hoping to build off this success and build a third ride and another dining location, per Vulture Magazine. There is no word on what time of ride this may be or if the new restaurant would be a quick service or table service. Since Satu’li Canteen is quick service, it would be nice to see a table service option in this popular section of the park as well.

To back this rumor up, it’s also important to keep in mind that two new installments to Avatar, the movie Pandora is based off of, will be hitting theaters in 2020 and 2021. Disney could ride the coattails of the movie releases and market new attractions for fans of the movie to visit.

Dinoland/Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama

Orlando Weekly is reporting that this area geared to the younger Animal Kingdom guests might be shut down and re-imagined with in the next few years. One part of an update to this area might be the addition of pathways connecting Dinoland and Asia. These pathways would help with crowd flow when Rivers of Light and the Finding Nemo: The Musical shows end.

Another rumor is that Disney may re-imagine the entire Dinoland area to South American-themed. Dinosaur would be re-imagined to an Indiana Jones-themed like the ride that is very popular at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

Two New Continents?

Orlando Weekly is also reporting that there is a large plot of land behind Asia that could possibly house one or two new continent-themed lands. A long-running rumor is that Australia might be the next continent to receive it’s own land at Animal Kingdom. An Australian-themed land might feature The Living Sea aquarium moved over from Epcot. Guests of the Park might also be treated to some attractions themed from The Rescuers 2 movie. The Rescuers has seen a popularity resurgence after the release of it’s merchandise at Tokyo Disneyland earlier in the year. Many have been saying it won’t be long until we see merchandise here as well. Earlier rumors pointed to a dolphin and killer whale show being added. That doesn’t seem very likely now though.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch

I feel like we have been covering this rumor for a while now. And as I always say, “When there is smoke, there is fire.” With that being said, expect to see Rafiki’s Planet Watch re-themed to Zootopia-themed land sometime in the future. Zootopia made Disney billions at the box office so it would only make sense to bring it to the parks. Rafiki’s Planet Watch seems to be the best place for a Zootopia makeover. There is already the train that takes guests to Rafiki’s Planet Watch that can be re-imagined with a Zootopia theme. Other rumored additions would be another ride and meet-and-greets.

Of course, nothing is official until Disney confirms it. Keep following along with Chip & Co to stay up-to-the minute with breaking Disney Park announcements!
