The 2022 Department of Defense Warrior Games are officially coming back to Central Florida! The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command recently announced the return of this intense competition that honors America’s Armed Forces to the area. To top it all off, the competition will take place at the Walt Disney World Resort!

Walt Disney and his brother Roy had a deep appreciation for the Armed Forces, their families and our veterans. Though never a member himself, Walt saw it as his responsibility to find ways to honor service members. Disney World endeavors to continue this legacy by welcoming wounded warriors and their families for this tournament.

In case you’ve never heard of it, the DoD Warrior Games was started in 2010 and includes hundreds of elite athletes from the United States Armed Forces and allied nations. They will compete at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in an array of events. These include wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, among others. It’s an exciting and impressive contest that is also open to the public!
The ESPN facilities are being donated for use and serving as a Warrior Games venue for the first time. The Games celebrate our service members’ resiliency and dedication, especially those who are wounded, ill, and injured. Whether they are active duty or veteran military service members, they deserve this moment in the spotlight. They are a visual reminder of a resilient dedication to overcome obstacles. They represent the best of us.

Walt Disney World will also be hosting the 2022 Veterans Institute Summit presented by Disney Institute August 19th through the 20th. This event will also take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. This summit will help companies build effective veteran hiring, training and support of their own. It will be a two-day forum and will include speakers from Disney’s Heroes Work Here initiative, U.S. government officials, veterans and military spouses, and more.
