The closure of Walt Disney World has meant a lot of changed plans, cancelled vacations, and delayed annual passes. Another big impact of the parks being inaccessible is the cancellation of the annual runDisney Star Wars Rival Run Weekend, which would have occurred April 17th-19th, 2020. What no one had yet guessed at being impacted was the 2021 Walt Disney World Marathon Event, but registration has now been quietly pushed back.
With no official announcement to clue in interested parties, the website for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend has been updated. Registration, which was due to open April 7th, only says ”opening soon,” with no additional information available as to when ”soon” will be. As far as the official dates for the marathon, nothing has changed and is still projected to be January 6th-10th, 2021. However, the website has a clear message to all visitors: ”On-sale dates for future runDisney races will be adjusted, and we will have more information to share soon.” Runners, keep your ears to the ground! It appears that Disney is making changes as more information about social distancing becomes available.
It’s hard to know the impact current events will have on upcoming Disney marathons, the best thing to do is simply check on information as it becomes available. Many runDisney events in 2020 still have open registration, so it looks like Walt Disney World is staying optimistic about the situation! Runners can similarly maintain their optimism, along with 6 feet of distance between running mates to follow CDC guidelines. Be safe, everyone!
