Walt Disney Pictures has confirmed the location of their upcoming live-action / CGI remake of “Pete’s Dragon”. Filming in New Zealand is set to start in January 2015, in the capital of Wellington at Peter Jackson’s Stone Street Studios. “Pete’s Dragon” which stars Robert Redford, Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence will also film at the Bay of Plenty and other Wellington and Canterbury areas. Based on Disney’s original movie, the remake brings us an updated version with less music, of Pete, a young boy whose parent’s died in a car crash and is now being raised by a dragon, named Elliot who lives in a forest that is being threatened by loggers.
Producer, Jim Whitaker shared how they were “searching for a shooting location that captures the wonder and spirit of Pete’s Dragon” and found it in the New Zealand landscape. CEO of Film, New Zealand is “delighted to welcome back Disney”.
Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” along side “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” which is filming in Australian starting in February are just 2 of the regions Disney movies coming our way.
