Would you volunteer to go on a trial Disney Cruise?

The CDC has released guidelines for cruise lines to return to sailing. One of the requirements is for cruise lines to conduct trial cruises to test out the new protocols. The trial cruises would include crew members and volunteers rather than regular guests.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is allowing people to sign up as a volunteer for a trial cruise. However, the cruise line is not sure how it will choose volunteers.

The CDC has put certain restrictions on test voyages that all cruise lines will need to follow. Here are some of those restrictions:

• Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
• Volunteers should not have any pre-existing health issues.
• The cruise ship operator must conduct any simulation on a consensual basis.
• The cruise ship operator must conduct a monitored observation period and laboratory testing of volunteer passengers before a simulated voyage.

If cruise lines used guest volunteers, the cruise would not be the same as a normal cruise. Volunteers would be required to participate in mandatory tests of the procedures in place. So a relaxing afternoon on deck could well be interrupted by the call to come to the theatre, the dining room, shops, or even do an evacuation drill. Neither will bars or restaurants be open when volunteers want, but when the cruise lines need to test those outlets.

If Disney Cruise Line asked for volunteers for its trial sailings, would you volunteer? Keeping in mind everything said above and that the trial sailings wouldn’t necessarily be free.

Disney Cruise Line has canceled all sailings through the end of 2020. The cruise line also does not have any trial sailings planned yet.
