Worth the Ride – Main Street Vehicles

Main Street Vehicle

If you speed down Main Street, U.S.A. towards your favorite attractions, you may have never noticed all the vehicles of Main Street.  I was guilty of this until the past few years.  And even then, I noticed them, but never knew how to take a ride.

On our last trip, I decided it was our turn.  After the rope dropped and we crossed underneath the train station.  Around town square, there are signs for the different vehicles, including the horse-pulled trolley, horseless carriage, fire engine, and omnibus.  We headed towards a short line – the horse-pulled trolley.  These are one-way vehicles.  They will give you a slow, scenic tour of Main Street and drop you off at Cinderella Castle.  Though you can’t interact with the citizens of Main Street, you can soak up the atmosphere without walking into people or signs (hey, it could happen).

The vehicles go back and forth between Town Square and Cinderella Castle throughout the day.  I’ve heard that horses take turns and don’t run for the entire day, so animal lovers, don’t worry.  These guys are treated well!  Running since the park opening in 1971, these vehicles represent different times represented on Main Street, U.S.A.  The horse-drawn trolley represents the beginning of Main Street, the year circa 1890.

In our past few visits, I’ve taken pictures of the horse drawn trolley and it’s always been driven by this same cast member, Bill.  We did stop and talk to him and I after I mentioned I always see him, he laughed saying he’s been part-time for the past few years.  Part time or full time, he’s a wonderful driver, cast member, and addition to the Disney Parks.  If you’re not in a hurry on your next trip, stop in Town Square to take a ride on a Main Street Vehicle.  Hopefully, you’ll fully enjoy the immersion in Disney Magic!

  1. I’ve seen them in mid June, so I don’t think so! I’ve heard they usually only run from opening until early afternoon. And, I saw them decorated for Christmas last January, so I’d guess they would have been out and about during the Christmas season!

  2. Are they “temporarily suspended” during busy times? I’ve only seen one once during the last 15 or so years! But, we always go on school holidays, AKA “peak” season.
