Or, effectively, one massive theory with a ton of conversation points: That Quentin Beck/Mysterio is NOT dead. Though he appeared to die from an injury inflicted by one of his many drones in a blind, fury-filled rage, several theories suggest one thing. That Mysterio was simply playing dead the whole time.

My favorite source of “proof” comes straight from the spider’s mouth. That’s right, Peter Parker himself is the one who left the door open to the possibility.

After Beck appears to have past and breathed his last breath, Peter begins to ask E.D.I.T.H., his special set of high-tech glasses gifted to him by Tony Stark post humorous, if Mysterio is dead, but gets too choked up to finish asking about Beck’s condition and then specifically asks if all illusions are down. E.D.I.T.H. does confirms the illusions are down, but does NOT confirm Quentin Beck’s death. Though his performance could have been very realistic, there is always the chance that Beck was simply doing what he did best in the film, acting.

This theory seems to also be confirmed by the events that occur during the video “leaked” to The Daily Bugle, that shows Mysterio dying as the “true hero” and “proving” Spider-Man is the “real menace” and ultimately sharing Peter Parker’s true identity with the world.

“Now people know Peter’s identity. People now think he’s a villain, Mysterio plays one last trick on him and succeeds… [so that] means everything’s different,” Feige tells Fandango. “Where it goes, we’ll see. But it’s exciting that it once again sets us up for a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.”

Reddit user: The_Art_Jedi shared this post with their theory that the video leaked to The Daily Bugle is all the proof we need that Mysterio is still alive, “Not sure if this has been discussed before, but Mysterio’s team specifically Cried his suit in for the news. Plus Mysterio never had time to record a video leaking Peter’s identity, he’d had to have done it after he faked his death!”

So how is this possible? Many theorist suggest that Beck made it look like he had been hit by a drone, and really has not taken any real life-threatening damage, or that his injuries were not as severe as he made them appear and had decided to play dead, knowing that Peter would not ensure his death was real.

Echos of this theory are in almost every comment section on various social media platforms asking about the nature of his fate and fans seem to all agree on one thing. That Mysterio is in fact still alive and well, and plotting against the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, hoping that by manipulating the populous to be against him, he can take down Peter Parker for good.

It would make total sense that Marvel and Sony would not want to simply throw away such a huge villain for Spider-Man, but with the future of Spider-Man in the MCU still on rocky terrain, it is likely that Mysterio may, or may not appear again in a future Spider-Man film. He may decide to move on to bigger fish, or may stick with the web-slinger, if Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man stays with Sony after the next Spider-Man film. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, worked for quite some time to find the “perfect” role for actor Jake Gyllenhall, so it would only be natural to want to keep him in the Marvel family as long as possible.

Mysterio is the master of illusion, and we may have only just scratched the surface of his abilities in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

When asked by ComicBook.com if Mysterio survived, Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal said, “You don’t know.” Director Jon Watts agreed there was a possibility Mysterio could have survived, “It’s Mysterio, so who knows? He definitely seemed dead.”

“We wanted to find our ‘in’ and similar to what we did with Mordo in Doctor Strange,” he said. “We wanted to give them time to have relationships so when and if we get to do something different with Mysterio, it really feels like a betrayal… and we’re hopefully setting the stage for something really spectacular and that feels really Spider-Man, which is, again, if we get to do something else with this character, then they’ve already got this really personal relationship.”

What are your thoughts on Mysterio? Do you think he is really dead, or do you believe he is still out there? Set to return at a later date? What ‘proof’ have you seen online or discussed with other fans? We would love to hear your thoughts and theories in the comments!
