Which Untitled Disney Live-Action Movie Will Premiere in December 2021? Despite huge changes in film and entertainment in 2020, Disney has announced a fair share of upcoming live-action films currently in the works at Walt Disney Studios. From The Little Mermaid to Hercules, there is plenty to be excited about in the years to come, but which film could we see in theaters or via digital premiere in December 2021?
Currently, Disney has an untitled live-action film scheduled for release in December and has yet to announce which movie it will be. We know that The Little Mermaid is currently filming at Pinewood Studios, and other live-action films such as Cruella and Jungle Cruise have already been announced for this year, so which title could fill the slot?
Given the public knowledge of the confirmed titles in production, our best bets indicate that Shrunk!, The Little Mermaid or Peter Pan & Wendy are far enough into production that we could see a premiere for one of these movies as early as this year, but check out some other live-action titles that are currently or rumored to be in the works at Walt Disney Studios:
Confirmed Titles:
Hercules
Hercules is set to be produced by The Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo, along with Jeffrey Silver and Karen Gilchrist.Dave Callaham is penning the script and composer Alan Menken has returned for the project and will introduce some new music for the film.
Lilo and Stitch
The live-action Lilo and Stitch film will be directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) and is rumored to star Siena Agudong as Lilo with Chris Sanders reprising his role as Stitch.
Pinocchio
Pinocchio will star Tom Hanks as Geppetto and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film has been confirmed by Disney to receive a Disney+ release.
The Haunted Mansion
Though the film has been confirmed details surrounding the film have been veiled from the public. Disney has reportedly tapped Guillermo del Toro to direct and co-write the film with Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, The Heat) under the production team of Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich. The Haunted Mansion film is set to reboot the franchise and will NOT be a sequel to the 2003 live-action film starring Eddie Murphy.
Pirates of the Caribbean (Reboot)
Currently, Margot Robbie is set to lead the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot under the direction of Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) is set to direct and pen the script for Disney.
National Treasure 3
National Treasure 3 is currently in the works at Disney and will reportedly have a younger cast than the first two films. It is currently unknown, but highly suspected that Nicholas Cage will return for the third film, but likely in a secondary role or as a cameo appearance. The film has been confirmed by Disney to receive a Disney+ release.
Three Men and a Baby (Remake)
The popular 80’s film is set to get a remake for Disney+ and has landed Zac Efron as one of the films leads. Will Reichel has penned the rework of the script for the project and Gordon Gray (The Way Back) is set to produce. The film has been confirmed by Disney to receive a Disney+ release.
The Cast for Disney’s Live-Action The Little Mermaid currently includes: Halle Bailey (Ariel), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Javier Bardem (King Triton), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Emily Coates (Unspecified), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), and Awkwafina (Scuttle). Filming is currently underway at Pinewood Studios in London.
Peter Pan & Wendy
“Peter Pan & Wendy is a live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of a boy who wouldn’t grow up and recruits three young siblings in London to join him on a magical adventure to the enchanted Neverland island.” Currently, the film will star Ever Anderson as Wendy, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily and Jude Law, who is rumored to portray Captain Hook. It is unknown who will play Mr. Smee, John and Michael Darling, The Darling Parents, or The Lost Boys. The film has been confirmed by Disney to receive a Disney+ release.
Shrunk!
This Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! sequel will take place decades after the events of the original film. Set to direct the film is Joe Johnston, with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing and Todd Rosenberg penning the script. Rick Moranis and Josh Gad will star as the film leads.
