There’s nothing better for a Disney fan than the promise of a new film on the horizon. That’s exactly what guests at the D23 Expo got along with a preview for the upcoming movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios: Raya and the Last Dragon.
The film’s main character, Raya, is a young woman from a fictitious kingdom called Kumandra. She is a warrior who patches together a motley group of outsiders to help her find the Last Dragon, their last hope for unity and light in the land. The movie is inspired by the culture and beauty of Southeast Asia and focuses on themes of hope and diversity within a community. Kids of all ages (and their parents) will be able to find enlightenment as they travel along with this new band of friends.
The film promises to deliver a high quality storyline and animation, with directors Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins, known for their work on ”Big Hero 6” and ”Frozen.” They’ll be joined by producer Osnat Shurer of ”Moana” and writer Adele Lim of ”Crazy Rich Asians.” It was also announced at the D23 Expo that Awkwafina will be voicing Sisu, also known as the Last Dragon, and Cassie Steele will be taking on the role of Raya. A dynamite crew!
One thing is for certain, Disney film-goers are ready for some original and unique content that Walt Disney Animation Studios is ready to deliver! Devotees will want to keep their ears to the ground until November 25, 2020, when this film hits U.S. theatres. Just in time for the holidays!
