Though most marriage proposals at the Disney Parks around the world are full of magic and romance, sometimes they don’t go as planned. One couple visiting Disneyland Paris had their proposal interrupted by cast members after entering a restricted area for entertainment and were swiftly ushered off the stage mid-proposal after previously receiving permission from another Cast Member.

The now-viral video has the internet divided with many siding with the happy couple who seemingly were rudely interrupted and others sympathizing with the team of cast members doing their job to keep the guests safe. As a prior Cast Member, I can say the #1 priority of Cast Members is Safety above all else. It is the number one key, followed by Courtesy, Show, Efficiency, and Inclusivity. Likely, the Disney Cast Members who intervened were worried that the behavior would encourage other guests to do the same thing and were genuinely concerned for the couple’s safety. I also can understand how many people feel like there was no obvious or imminent danger and the couple should have been able to enjoy the moment and the Cast Member should not have grabbed their personal property to encourage them to follow the rules.
Whatever your opinion may be, we are not here to argue who was right and who was in the wrong (honestly, both parties could have handled the situation better), but we wanted you to see the video for yourself!

“We regret how this was handled,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.”
