Disney Dream

Earlier this week, Disney updated the Disney Cruise Line policy for pregnant women traveling on a Disney Cruise Line vacation. For everyone’s safety and best interest, Disney will not allow women who are more than 23 weeks pregnant to sail on Disney Cruise Line. This policy is effective immediately. A notice from your doctor or a waiver will not be accepted to board the ship.

This policy has been updated on the FAQ section of the Disney Cruise Line website, as well as in the Terms & Conditions section. Here is verbatim how the new policy reads:

“Women who have entered their 24th week of pregnancy as of their embarkation date, or who will enter their 24th week of pregnancy during their cruise will be refused passage due to safety concerns. Neither a physician’s medical statement nor a waiver of liability will be accepted. In addition Disney Cruise Line cannot be held responsible for any complications relating to pregnancy at any stage.”

Do you think this new policy is a good idea to make sure no issues arise while on board or do you think it is unfair to be denied if a doctor approves the travel?

  1. does anyone know what the previous guidelines were. A Disney Vacation planner is telling me this has always been their policy, she says she has a client who wanted to cruise this past Christmas but would have been more than 24 weeks so they would not let her book????

  2. This isn’t going to work. They can’t just assume every woman is pregnant. I’m just plain fat. They’d lose a lot of business fast if they asked every bigger woman if she was pregnant.

  3. I know I would want to be on solid ground at any stage of pregnancy – not in the middle of an ocean. Although medical complications can arise with anyone -pregnant or not- it’s better to be safe than sorry for expectant moms. Unfortunately (and I know from experience) things can go wrong during any trimester.

  4. Twenty four weeks is too early to deny passage. Something must have happened to cause them to change their policy. This precludes families who may have wanted to “babymoon,” at a time when pregnancy is most comfortable. Had I not been placed on medical restriction, we would have booked a cruise for the end of next month, and I would have been allowed passage according to the past policy, but denied according to the new one. Boy, would I have been angry! Hopefully that doesn’t happen to anyone.

  5. 24 weeks is really early. While complications are very common in pregnancy, most are much closer to full term. I could be talked into 34 weeks, definitely at 36 weeks, but heck women still fly up to 38-40 weeks

  6. How are they going to know how many weeks along a woman is? Some women don’t show at that stage. Some women look pregnant when they are not. I don’t think they will take a chance asking someone, are you pregnant?

  7. Now the question is…will Disney be offering a FULL refund for those parties that did not know they were pregnant at time of booking and payment???
