2021 seems like a long time away for roller coaster fans who are currently awaiting the opening of the Tron Lightcycle coaster at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The project has already been underway for two years, but recently reached a major milestone in its construction: the final piece of track has been installed!
The ride itself is over 3000 feet of track; it started out divided into over 120 pieces that needed to be laid. The coaster is inspired by the Tron Lightcycle ride at Shanghai Disneyland, which has received widespread attention and positive reviews since its opening in 2016.
The construction site is next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland, the perfect spot to accommodate fans of fast rides and futuristic environments. The lightcycles that guests will board were recently unveiled at this year’s D23 Expo, as were the Cast Member uniforms for the ride.
The entire project team came out to celebrate this momentous occasion and recognize the results of their hard work. They all seem as excited to share the experience with guests as guests are excited to test out the ride for themselves. It’s only a matter of time now. TRON Lightcycle Run is set to open in 2021, just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration!
