Traveling to Disney World with a Wheelchair

I’m sure we have all seen wheelchairs in the park, some pushed by others, some on there own or even the motorized scooter type’s, whatever kind… they are there, thankfully!

My mom would never be able to experience the Magic of Disney if they were not, so for her and others who need them, again I am thankful that they can be used in Disney and for most part, easily!

When visiting Disney World you can rent what you need from them, here is a list of prices and locations:

For the convenience of Guests with disabilities, wheelchairs and Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV) are available for rent at a variety of locations throughout Disney Theme Parks and the Downtown Disney Area. A limited supply of wheelchairs is also available for Guests use at select Disney Resort hotel locations, but ECVs are not available. ECVs are designed to be single-rider and not to hold more than one person.

Rental Fees (Prices are subject to change.)

  • $12.00 USD per day for wheelchairs at Theme Parks
  • $12.00 USD per day plus a $100.00 USD refundable security deposit for wheelchairs at the Downtown Disney Area
  • $50.00 USD per day plus a $20.00 USD refundable security deposit for ECVs at Theme Parks
  • $50.00 USD per day plus a $100.00 USD refundable security deposit for ECVs at the Downtown Disney Area

Rented units must be returned to the original rental location to receive a security deposit refund. Guests must be 18 years of age to rent an ECV. ECVs are designed to be single-rider and not to hold more than one person.

Quantities are limited and subject to availability. For more information, please visit our Guests with Needs section and ask for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities when you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort.

For Guests who require a wheelchair rental for multiple days, Disney Theme Parks offer a length of stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment transaction for as many days of rental as you will need. Wheelchairs are available for $10.00 USD per day when rented for multiple days. Upon visiting a Disney Theme Park, show your receipt at the wheelchair rental location and you will be expedited through the queue with a reduced wait time. The length of stay rental option is not available or valid at Downtown Disney.

Magic Kingdom Theme Park Wheelchair and ECV rentals are available at the Stroller Shop inside the Magic Kingdom theme park entrance. For more information, ask for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities at City Hall.

Epcot Theme Park Wheelchair and ECV rentals are available on the east side of the Epcot theme park Entrance Plaza and at the International Gateway. For more information, ask for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities at Guest Relations on the east side of  Spaceship Earth.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels A limited number of wheelchairs are available at each Disney Resort Hotel. Contact Guest Services or the Front Desk for assistance. A $315 USD deposit will be held on the Guest room account—charged only if the wheelchair is not returned. Guests wishing to guarantee the use of a wheelchair throughout their stay should contact local area rental companies to make arrangements.

While being able to rent what you need in and on Disney property, is a great when something happens and you need one then and there, I have to tell you that renting offsite or even from home can and will be much, much cheaper if need one for your entire trip! So checking into a few offsite places beofre you go will benifit you in the long run~ These places will drop off and pick up at your resort and you can use them all over Disney property, not just in the parks.

Here is a list of a few…

If you need or someone in your party needs the assistance of wheelchair or scooter on your Disney Vacation then by all means get one, it will make your vacation so much more enjoyable!

I know that sometimes other guest have thought “they are using a wheelchair to get on a ride quicker or better seats at a show or on a bus” I assure you that is not the case! It can be very disheartening to hear comments like that, especially when I am sure that the person in the chair would give anything to be walking through Disney World! So please don’t be so quick to judge when you see a wheelchair in line at your favorite ride or going in a side entrance to a show or even in line at the bus stops, they deserve to enjoy there vacation just as much as anyone and if a wheelchair can make that happen then more power to them!

Dana is a Disney Addict that travels to Disney often with her mom and her mom’s wheels, you can find them both anywhere on Disney Property!

  1. We have had very good experiences with Buena Vista Scooters, also. We have used them for the past 5 years, and recently purchased a ‘refurbished’ one from them (which was just slightly more than a one week rental!) Great folks to work with, great product! I enjoy looking down at my scooter when I use it, and thinking of all the ‘magical’ places it’s been!
