Tower of Terror Will Operate At A Reduced Capacity During Refurbishment

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting into tip-top shape during its 30th anniversary.  With the new Toy Story Land, the planned opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge there is so much new that has already arrived or is coming. Now one of the favorite attractions is scheduled for refurbishment. By the time fall rolls around Hollywood Studios is going to feel like a whole new park.

Tower of Terror will be undergoing a planned refurbishment beginning this spring and running through summer. However, rather than closing the attraction entirely one side will be kept open while the other side undergoes work. While this does allow guests to continue to enjoy the attraction the capacity will be reduced to half of the normal operation. The reduced capacity will likely extend wait times for the attraction. It can also be expected that the number of Fastpasses available each day will be limited to accomodate for the reduced capacity for the attraction.

The refurbishment is expected to be a long one beginning this spring and lasting into the summer. The exact dates of the refurbishment have not been disclosed at this time and the schedule can change without notice. There has not been any official word on the actual refurbishments planned. No huge changes are expected during the refurbishment, it is thought that the downtime will consist of general maintenance and repair of any existing issues.

The freefall elevator attraction themed as the Hollywood Tower Hotel and based on the television series, The Twilight Zone opened in 1994, five years after the initial opening of the park.
