Tomorrowland Speedway will close temporarily while the track is re-routed to make room for a new coaster inspired by TRON.
The Speedway is currently slated to close just after the first of the year on January 2, 2019. Work to adjust the track will take approximately 4 1/2 months. The attraction is expected to reopen on May 17, 2019.
Disney has said that only the track will be different. The experience itself will not change, which is good news for fans of this iconic family attraction in Tomorrowland.
During this time, the Walt Disney World Railroad will halt its full-circle tours around Magic Kingdom’s perimeter. The locomotives and cars will enjoy a hiatus at the Main Street Station beginning in December of this year.
While the trains are resting, Guests will be able to enjoy new photo opportunities at the railroad. They will also be able to get up close and personal with one or more of the railroad’s locomotives–the Walter E. Disney, the Roger E. Broggie, the Roy O. Disney and the Lilly Belle.
