Tom Hanks shares his thoughts on Tim Allen not voicing Buzz in new Lightyear Movie

Tom Hanks is offering a new opinion about Pixar’s Lightyear movie.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Tom Hanks was asked bout his new film “Elvis” being in theaters the same time as “Lightyear.”

“How about that?,” Hanks said. “I actually wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”

“But here’s the thing: Just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater,” he added. “I want to go back into the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do.”

By now, many Disney and Pixar fans are fully aware of the distinction between Tim Allen’s Buzz and Chris Evans’ Buzz.  While Allen is the voice of Buzz Lightyear, the toy, Evans is the voice of Buzz Lightyear, the cinematic astronaut that the toy is based off of in the Toy Story universe.

On a related note, Tim Allen recently said Pixar’s Lightyear does not compare to the original Toy Story movies.

“This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies,” Allen said of the newest Pixar production. “There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.”

The comments from both Toy Story voice actors do offer another perspective. For over 25 years, Buzz Lightyear has been a toy associated with Woody and other children’s. Perhaps a division among fans formed by introducing a different characterization of Buzz.

At the end of the day, watching movies is about entertainment and people can form their own opinions.
