Timothée Chalamet to Star in Willy Wonka Origin Story from Warner Bros. Actor and Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet has been cast in the iconic role of Willy Wonka with a new story called “Wonka” that will take prior to the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and will be based on the characters from the classic book by Roald Dahl. The movie is currently filming in the UK and is set to premiere in theaters on March 17, 2023.
Chalamet will be joined by fellow confirmed cast members Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Keegan-Michael Key (The Prom), Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton (Ghosts), Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), Rich Fulcher (Marriage Story), Paterson Joseph (Noughts + Crosses), Calah Lane (The Day Shall Come), Colin O’Brien (The Mothership), Natasha Rothwell (White Lotus), Rakhee Thakrar (Sex Education) and Ellie White (The Other One) in unspecified roles.
Paul King (Paddington) has signed on to direct the project for Warner Bros. with David Heyman (Harry Potter, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Luke Kelly (The Witches) and Alexandra Derbyshire (Jurassic World: Dominion) acting as producers for the film.
