‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Plot Details and New Filming Start Date Announced. It’s been one year since Thor: Love and Thunder was announced to a very surprised Comic-Con audience and grabbed the headlines faster than Thor can call Mjolnir or Stormbreaker to his hands. What surprised fans the most was the announcement that Natalie Portman would not only be returning to the franchise, but she would be playing the iconic role of “Lady Thor”, whom we now know to be “The Mighty Thor” thanks to an update from Portman herself earlier this week.
There has been lots of chatter about the upcoming Marvel Studios film, especially as fans become more inquisitive. Due to the pandemic, San Diego Comic Con was canceled for 2020, but this has lead many studios, actors, directors, and other entertainment groups to share the news intended for the special event directly with fans.
As stated previously, Natalie Portman shared an update with Serena Williams during a 1:1 virtual interview with People Magazine. Serena asked Natalie about her upcoming role as Lady Thor in the sequel and Portman shared, “She’s actually The Mighty Thor. The comics had the female Thor when Jane becomes Thor, and she’s The Mighty Thor.”
Willams continued by asking if they had begun filming before the pandemic began earlier this year and Natalie confirmed the studios has not begun filming Love and Thunder just yet. “We haven’t started,” stated Natalie. “More time to get jacked. Which I have not. I’ve got the carbo-loading down, but not the exercise part. Obviously everything is weird because of pandemic time, who knows what’s happening,” she continued. “It will be exciting and I’m interested to see if I can gain muscle.” Portman has also shared that the cast and crew will begin filming very soon! Stating, “We’re shooting in Australia at the beginning of next year.”
Director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) is set to return for Thor: Love and Thunder and shared some insight on how the script is coming along for the film and what he is excited to explore in the new story. “I think it’s going really good,” Waititi shared with BBC News, “We’ve been writing the script off and on for over a year and… actually, this week, doing another pass on it,” and went on to say the script for Thor 4 is “so insane” and “also very romantic.” I want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”
Currently, Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder‘s release date has been pushed back to March 25, 2022 after delays from the pandemic have altered theater premiere schedules for the coming months and years. The fourth Thor film will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Taika Waititi (Korg), and appearance by The Guardians of the Galaxy, though it is unknown which members of the team will be featured in the film. As stated before, filming for Love and Thunder will begin in Australia at the beginning of 2021 and we can’t wait to see production begin.
