The Next Set of Star Wars Film Premiere Dates Have Been Pushed Back Due to Production Delays

The Next Set of Star Wars Film Premiere Dates Have Been Pushed Back Due to Production Delays. Though not much is known about the next three Star Wars films, Lucasfilm and Disney have made an executive decision to postpone the release of the next set of film an entire year.

The future films were set to premiere in theaters in 2022, 2024, and 2026, but will now be moved to 2023, 2025, and 2027, subsequently. The only known details about the films thus far is Director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) will be co-penning the script and directing one of the films, and reportedly Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige may dip his toes into the Star Wars franchise for one of the films as well.

Joining Waititi on the screenplay for the next Star Wars film will be Academy Award® nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho), who received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year on the three-time Oscar-winning film, 1917.

Disney has shared that the reasoning behind the premiere date push backs is due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had caused Hollywood to come to a screeching halt since March 2020, and has only begun to resume production now in July 2020.

Though the future of the franchise may be uncertain, we can’t wait to see what stories are yet to be told in the Star Wars Universe and appreciate that Lucasfilm and Disney are making a conscientious effort to do justice with the future Star Wars films by not rushing into production as studios beginning to reopen.
