I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about Walt Disney World is the food! Every year, chefs set to work creating the most iconic creations the “world” has ever seen. 2018 was no exception. Let’s break down the best of Walt Disney World food & drink for 2018.
We saw so many new restaurants and eateries open this year! Caribbean Beach Resort’s renovations brought with it the addition of Sebastian’s’ Bistro, along with a new look and taste for Centertown Market and Banana Cabana. Over at Coronado Springs, the over-the-water Spyglass Grill serves up Caribbean inspired Latin dishes, like the Caribbean Taco Trio. Just last month we saw the debut of a brand-new character dining experience, Storybook Dining at Artist Point.
Snow White and her friends visit with guests while they dine on a menu inspired by the classic film. Disney also got us ready for the big game over at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex with the addition of seven new concession stands and more than 30 snack carts featuring all new menus. Perfect for a pre-game meal, or a quick snack between events.
Disney Springs experienced its own restaurant renaissance with the addition of 8 new locations! Italian eateries Maria & Enzo’s, Pizza Ponte, Enzo’s Hideaway and Terralina Crafted Italian, all debuted in 2018. Each establishment offers its own unique take on regional Italian food in settings that vary from an underground speakeasy to a lakeside villa. The addition of the Edison, Wine Bar George, Chicken Guy! and Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill, round out the places to add to your list for your next visit.
One of the most exciting debuts of 2018 was Toy Story Land! Along with it came so many fun treats that looked like they popped right out of Andy’s lunch box. One of my personal favorites are the Lunch Box Tarts, which come in Chocolate Hazelnut, Raspberry and (exclusively for the holidays) Cinnamon Cran-Apple! They’re also serving up specialty beverages like the Mystic Portal Punch, served in an Alien Sipper, complete with “The Claw”. Oooooooooooooooh.
Of course, Disney always steps up their game for Epcot’s annual festivals. In addition to the International Food & Wine Festival, this year the International Festival of the Arts, International Flower & Garden Festival, and the International Festival of the Holidays each featured numerous food booths. Even Groot made an appearance in his own sipper cup, featuring slushies inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for snacks! From September through December, the holiday celebrations at Walt Disney World always have the best treats. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party brought us the seasons most polarizing snack, Candy Corn. Served in the form of a spooktacular milkshake! Snack time over at Hollywood Studios was a “Flurry of Fun” with holiday shortbread cookies. And let’s not forget the Gingerbread Spice Beignets over at Sassagoula Floatworks. SO TASTY!
Last but certainly not least, we have to give a nod to the snacks that launched an Insta-worthy sensation. Influencers rejoiced when the Rose Gold Cupcake debuted at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. Followed closely by the Millennial Pink Milkshake at Auntie Gravities in Magic Kingdom. This opened the floodgates for pastel treats galore from cream puffs and cake pops, to a signature bubbly topped with chocolate!
What a fantastic year for enjoying all of the culinary delights Walt Disney World had to offer. 2019 is shaping up to be full of promise, and snacks, as well. With even more restaurants coming to Disney Springs, brand new resort hotels, and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – I can’t wait to taste what’s in store!
