Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth Attend Culture Welcome Ceremony Before Filming ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘. Director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) recently attended a Welcome to Country ceremony in Australia in preparation to begin filming Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder.
Waititi shared photos from the event along with the caption, “Started Love & Thunder with Welcome to Country ceremony from Gamay dancers of Gadigal & Bidiagal Nation and karakia from Te Aranganui. I encourage all film makers to engage with 1st nations peoples whenever shooting your films. It’s worth it and it’s the right thing to do.”

Many fans were questioning why most attendees were not masked for the ceremony, but rest assured, Australia’s initial protocols to combat the COVID-19 outbreak has allowed the country to opt out of mask wearing for several months now. The persons in the photos wearing masks are likely international production members for Thor: Love and Thunder or those who would feel more comfortable wearing the masks during the event.
Thor: Love and Thunder is now set to premiere on May 6, 2022 and will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), and Christian Bale (Gorr the God Butcher). Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Marvel!
