Sunset Boulevard Gets a Smooth Makeover at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you are heading down Sunset Boulevard toward The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster on your next trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you might notice a little extra work underway underfoot.

Disney construction teams have officially kicked off a pavement replacement project right along one of the park’s most iconic thoroughfares.

A large section of pavement located directly outside the Once Upon a Time gift shop has been roped off for refurbishing.

  • Freshly Poured Concrete: The first phase of the project is already visible. A large, freshly poured square of asphalt/pavement is currently roped off. Because it’s brand new, it stands out as significantly darker than the surrounding walkway.
  • Prepped for Destruction: The work isn’t done yet! Directly adjacent to the newly poured square, crews have etched scoring marks into another large portion of the ground. These markings indicate that the old, worn pavement will be torn up and repaved in the coming days.

While white stanchions and temporary ropes aren’t the most magical sight in the world, routine maintenance like this is essential across Walt Disney World. Between millions of guest footsteps every year, heavy stroller traffic, and the occasional parade or service vehicle, main walkways undergo constant wear and tear.

This project follows similar pavement refreshes across the park over the past year, including recent touch-ups around the main entrance and ticket booths of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

While you may need to navigate around a small roped-off area outside Once Upon a Time, Sunset Boulevard remains open, and access to all major attractions, shops, and dining locations in the area is unaffected.
