Steven Spielberg Steps Down As Director of ‘Indiana Jones 5‘. According to Variety, famed Director, Steven Spielberg, has stepped down as director of Indiana Jones 5. The film seems to be plagued with delays. Some due to scheduling conflicts, a complete rewrite ordered for the script, and countless pushbacks by the studio as they look to complete other titles currently in the works.
With his busy schedule, it’s no wonder Spielberg will be taking a step back from directing, but never fear, he will not be completely separating from the project. Instead, Spielberg will remain on board as a “hands-on” executive producer.
So who will be filling the big shoes left by Steven Spielberg? Rumor has it, Disney has approached Ford v. Ferrari and Logan Director James Mangold is set to fill the position.
No matter who steps up to the plate, we are so excited to see Indy again on the big screen. Harrison Ford is still tied to the project and will reprise his role as Indiana Jones. We are not aware of any other returning cast members from any of the previous Indiana Jones films.
