Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has created over 7,000 jobs in central Florida!
Galaxy’s Edge is set to open later this month on August 29th, 2019. The land transports guests to the space planet of Batuu where they can have endless customizable experiences. At 14 acres, this is the largest single-land expansion in all of Disney Parks history!
More than 7,000 employees have been hired to help with Galaxy’s Edge since the start of the project in 2016. Of these 7,000 jobs, 1,700 are operational roles, leadership positions, entertainment performers, attraction engineers, and food and beverage and merchandise hosts and hostesses. 5,500 of these jobs have gone to support small and large Florida-based companies in local trade, artisan, and construction roles.
Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice president of Walt Disney World Parks, says, “The anticipation for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is unlike anything else we’re experiencing at Walt Disney World Resort. Our Cast Members make our parks uniquely special and we couldn’t create any of the memorable and immersive experiences for our Guests without their talents, passion and dedication.”
1,700 cast members were able to learn about the story of Batuu before its opening. They received special name tags and got to customize their costume by hand-selecting clothing and accessories from a variety of Resistance and First Order-theme options. This allowed each Batuuan to have a unique and personal look. This is just another way Disney has created an immersive experience.
“I have such pride in our Cast Members and am so confident in the opening team as they bring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life. This opening team is unparalleled and sets the stage in delivering out-of-this-galaxy experiences with guests traveling to Black Spire Outpost,” says Phil Holmes, vice president of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
