Star Billy Magnussen gives a promising update on Aladdin Disney+ spinoff

After appearing in the 2019 Aladdin, the actor Billy Magnussen has issued a promising update on Prince Anders’ solo venture.

According to an interview with Screenrant, Billy reassures fans that the Disney+ spin-off is still in the works.

It’s in development. We are in the stages of rewrites right now, and it’s still moving forward. Yeah, it’s really exciting … I loved making that character up, and to have the opportunity to create a world and a story with him in it has really been a treat. I love that. That’s what I really love about this industry; to play in such a way like that … To be the not-Prince-Charming Prince, you know? We always see Prince Charming, so I was like, ‘Let’s mix it up.”

— Billy Magnussen

After the successful premiere of Disney’s Aladdin(2019) the studio was quick to announce a sequel and a spin-off based on the live-action film. The sequel will reportedly feature the main cast. For instance, Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie. Also, the spin-off will feature a story about Prince Anders, who is one of Jasmine’s more memorable suitors. The spin-off will explore his family as well as the origins of Genie and will premiere on Disney+.

Reportedly, the Disney+ original movie will follow the events that led to Genie’s imprisonment. Not much else has been revealed, but it will be tied to Prince Ander’s family. According to those close to production, Billy Magnussen will return as Prince Anders. Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme have signed on to pen the script, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich returning to produce.

The vibrant live-action version of the Disney classic, “Aladdin”, tells the story of a charming boy on the streets of Agrabah, a determined princess, and a Genie who might just be the key to their future.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, “Aladdin” stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.
