The action packed thriller, “Bridge of Spies” comes out in Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD on February 2, 2016. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks the film has received six Academy Award Nominations. Including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Mark Rylance), Original Score, Sound Mixing, Production Design and Original Screenplay, the film is based on historical facts surrounding Rudolph Abel (Mark Rylance) a painter accused of being a Russian spy against the United States. Jim Donovan (Tom Hanks), is an insurance lawyer who is asked to represent Abel by the government. Basically Donovan will just be someone on record to ensure the legal process is followed. However, as the film progresses we see how Donovan step up and mount a defense for Abel and provides the ground work for negotiations when an US pilot, Frances Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) is captured by the Russians.
The Blu-ray combo pack and Digital HD includes extensive bonus features including the making of the film and the true-life events and people who inspired the film as well as personal stories by Spielberg and Hanks. Footage from the Beale Air Force Base highlighting the U-2 Spy Plane, and the pivotal scene on Glienicke Bridge where the exchange of the Russian and American prisoners took place, make this film a must have for any true historian. Recognized as one of AFI’s Top Movies of the Year, I for one, will be heading out to my favorite video store for my copy.
