Sony and Marvel Studios' 'Spider-Man 3' Production Delayed Due to Coronavirus

Sony and Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man 3‘ Production Delayed Due to Coronavirus. Though it is April Fool’s Day, this is no joke! Though other Marvel titles, such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, are still projected to continue on with filming starting this June, it seems Sony is calling for production delays before the cameras have even begun to roll.

The currently untitled Spider-Man 3 was set to begin filming this July and is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on July 16, 2021. It is currently unknown if the delay will have a minimal impact on the world premiere or if the delays will result in a postponed theatrical release.

Before the news broke about delays, the films star, Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), shared that he has read the script for the third stand-alone Spidey film and even refered to it as “insane.” “I’m super happy about it,” Holland shared with Inquirer.Net. “We will be shooting ‘Spider-Man 3‘ in July in Atlanta.”

Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige shared his excitement for the new film in an interview last July. “It’ll be fun to see Spidey back in his element, out of the shadow of Tony, out of the shadow of the other Avengers, as his own man now, as his own hero. And yet now facing his own challenges that aren’t coming from Avengers fighting, like [Captain America: Civil War], or aliens coming, like [Avengers:Infinity War] or [Avengers: Endgame]. It’s all Peter focused and Peter based.”

Currently, Tom Holland and Zendaya are slotted to reprise their roles as Peter Parker and MJ.

We can’t wait to see what our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is up to and what Sony and Marvel have in store. This is a developing story. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Marvel!
