'She-Hulk' Director Kat Coiro Shares How She Joined the Upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ Series

Director Kat Coiro (Marry Me) is a self-proclaimed fan of the Marvel movies, shows, and comics but has always had a special bond with the stories of Jessica Walters/She-Hulk and knew she had to get on the project. Coiro recently shared with Collider about her experience and pitching her ideas on how to bring the beloved stories to life on Disney+.

I’m a huge fan of the MCU, and I was actually a giant fan of the She-Hulk comics, so when I heard they were making it, I went full-court press and really sold myself as the person to bring this story to life. It was a huge and involved process. Marvel is one of the most collaborative environments in the world. Even though he’s producing so many things, Kevin [Feige], and Lou [D’Esposito] and Victoria [Alonso] and Brad [Winderbaum], have such a hand in everything. The process was really about getting on the same page and making sure that we were like-minded. It’s never about anybody’s ego. It’s about bringing these stories to life. It was a long process, but those processes to get a job become very easy when you’re really passionate about the material, which I was in the case of that one.

The She-Hulk series will star Tatiana Maslany (Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk), Tim Roth (Emil Blonsky/Abomination), Renee Elise Goldsberry (Amelia), Jameela Jamil (Titania), Ginger Gonzalez (unspecified), and reportedly The Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo. It is currently unknown if Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk/Bruce Banner will merely appear in a cameo-style role, reoccurring role, or as a main character in the She-Hulk series. Kat Coiro is the executive producer and director of the new series. It is also unknown if the series will follow the same storylines as the comics for Jennifer/She-Hulk’s origin story.

A release date has not been announced for the series at this time, but She-Hulk is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for updates and all things Disney+ and Marvel!
