Seth Rogen Breaks Silence on Disney’s Figment Movie
Could EPCOT’s favorite little purple dragon finally be flying onto the big screen? After nearly four years of complete radio silence, producer Seth Rogen has offered a rare—and delightfully evasive—update on Disney’s secretive Figment movie!
Back in September 2022, news broke that Disney was developing a feature film based on EPCOT’s beloved mascot, with Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures producing and Pokémon Detective Pikachu scribes Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit set to write. Since then, fans haven’t heard a peep about the project.
While promoting his film Babies at the Toronto International Film Festival, Rogen was asked by Entertainment Weekly where development currently stands on the long-awaited project.
First, Rogen cleared up a common misconception about his personal involvement:
“I wasn’t gonna star in it, we were producing it,” Rogen clarified.
When pressed on the current status of the film and whether production is moving forward, Rogen responded with his signature laugh:
“Um, let me get back to you on that. Let me kick the tires on that one!”
And when asked if he could tease anything about their vision for the character, he kept his lips sealed, adding with a smile: “I can’t tell you anything!”
While Rogen didn’t announce an official production schedule or release date, his tight-lipped response is music to Disney fans’ ears. Rather than declaring the project canceled, his evasive answers suggest the film is still quietly kicking around in development behind Disney’s famous vault doors.
Plus, Rogen and Point Grey Pictures already have a strong track record of bringing classic Disney properties back to life, having recently produced the critically acclaimed The Muppet Show reboot special.
This movie update comes at an incredible time for fans of EPCOT’s Journey Into Imagination. At D23, Disney officially announced that the iconic Dreamfinder will be reuniting with Figment for a major revamp of the EPCOT attraction, bringing the duo back together after nearly three decades apart.
