Rumored: Marvel Studios Looking to Cast Joel Kinnaman in 'Spider-Man 3'

Rumored: Marvel Studios Looking to Cast Joel Kinnaman in ‘Spider-Man 3‘. According to Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are hunting for their next super villain, and it seems the studios are shooting to cast Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon, Suicide Squad) as Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter.

Charles Murphy shared the scoop via Murphy’s Multiverse, stating, “It appears that Marvel Studios is looking for a Joel Kinnaman-type for an unspecified role in the upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Sequel. Given all the rumors and speculation around what Spidey 3 will likely be about and what villains we are likely to see in it, it’s incredibly easy to make yourself believe that the studio wants this Kinnaman-type for a major role and one that fans are dying to see introduced in the film: Kraven…and I’ll be damned if Kinnaman isn’t perfect for it.”

According to Marvel.com, Kraven was a maniacal big game hunter who sought to defeat Spider-Man to prove that he was the greatest hunter in the world. Unlike other hunters, he typically disdained the use of guns or bow and arrows preferring to take down large dangerous animals with his bare hands even though he often made elaborate preparations to weaken a quarry before hand. He also used a mystical serum to give him similar strength to Spider-Man, but even without the serum he was a threat to the wall-crawler. However, Kraven’s continual underestimation of the superhero’s resourcefulness made him a frustrating quarry in the comics.

The films star, Tom Holland, mentioned earlier this year that he hopes to wrap filming for the untitled Spider-Man 3 film by “February of next year” with production reportedly getting set to resume after the abrupt closure of the studios back in March of 2020 due to the pandemic. Currently, Tom Holland and Zendaya are slotted to reprise their roles as Peter Parker and MJ.

We can’t wait to see what our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is up to and what Sony and Marvel have in store. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Marvel!
