Rumor: Tron Lightcycle Run is expected to open sooner than we think

Tron

There has been a lot of talk about when Tron Lightcycle Run is expected to open at the Magic Kingdom. While an official opening date has not been announced that doesn’t mean that the rumor mill hasn’t been gossiping about when this all-new ride will open at Walt Disney World.

I will break down a few things we know, and some of the gossip we have heard online about when it is expected to open. So buckle in and let’s take a look at the latest information…

  • Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland Light & Power Company is expected to open on November 6th.

Right now Tomorrowland Light & Power Company is closed for refurbishment. The Disney World Website shows the reopening on November 6th according to the Refurbishment Calendar. The Tomorrowland Light & Power Company building is expected to serve as the exit for Tron Lightcycle Run. So until that reopens we DO KNOW that Tron will not be open to guests till at least November 6th. Keep in mind refurbishment dates can be changed so nothing is set in stone…

  • The Walt Disney World Railroad Track is not complete

Right now the Walt Disney World Railroad track is not complete which runs through Tron Lightcycle Run. Disney has been testing the trains almost daily but without a completed track I would not expect Tron Lightcycle Run to open.

There is only about 50 feet of track left to complete so as soon as we see the Walt Disney World Railroad running again we should KNOW a better opening date for Tron.

  • Live Testing is underway for Tron Lightcycle Run

Over the past few days, we have seen Disney testing Tron Lightcycle Run with real people. The ride vehicles can be seen almost every minute with people riding the attraction. This is more than likely Disney Imagineers testing the various elements of the ride to get things just right for guests. Before the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind in Epcot Walt Disney Imagineers tested the ride over and over to make sure the show elements were in perfect sync with the music so it is a good guess that is what they are doing now.

  • An official announcement of the opening of Tron Lightcycle Run is coming to the D23 Expo

Disney is expected to announce the opening of the Tron Lightcycle Run at the Disney Parks and Experiences Launching -Wonderful World of Dreams panel on Sunday, September 11, at 10:30 a.m with Josh D’Amaro. For those who follow the D23 Expo, this is where Disney likes to announce all of their upcoming projects at the Disney Theme Parks around the Globe. So we have less than 2 weeks till we know for sure when it will open.

  • The gossip is that Tron Lightcycle Run will open in LATE 2022

We have been reading reports that even with all these events still needing to take place that Tron Lightcycle Run might open in 2022. One site mentions opening on October 1st but I think that is being very generous… It could open a lot sooner than we think! Many fans are thinking November 6th.

Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind which is an indoor coaster, we couldn’t really see all the work that needed to be done before the opening. However with Tron, we see that walkways still need to be completed, train tracks need to be joined together, landscaping needs to be worked on, and I am sure Disney is going to give the ride a once over as many of the canopies and whatnot are already showing their age.

Keep in mind Disney is going to do an all-out media blitz for the opening of Tron Lightcycle Run and being a Disney blogger I have yet to see any mention of Tron. To be fair I have seen more announcements on Moana’s Journey of Water in Epcot than I have Tron.

I like to think that Tron will open sometime in the Spring of 2023 just before the crowds hit for Spring Break. With nothing going on over at Disney’s main competitor Universal Orlando they can take their time and open Tron Lightcycle Run when they are good and ready. Like I mentioned above I am sure there will be an official announcement at the D23 Expo next week and then we will start to see a media push pretty much everywhere. Disney is going to want to really hype up the opening of Tron as it has taken them years to build.

Rumor: Tron Lightcycle Run is expected to open sooner than we think

Disney has surprised us many times in the past. Out of the blue, they could announce the opening of Tron, schedule Cast Member, AP, and DVC Previews and they could tie up these loose ends that need to be completed, so November 6th isn’t that far-fetched of an idea.

For now, we will have to take everything with a grain of salt and patiently wait till next week when the expected opening announcement will take place at the D23 Expo.
