Retired Disney Imagineers petition Walt Disney Company to fire Bob Chapek

Recently a petition was started by Retired Disney Imagineers requesting the Walt Disney Company to fire CEO Bob Chapek.

The petition reads:

Bob Chapek became the Chairman of Parks and Resorts for Disney in 2015. He has consistently made decisions that decrease the quality of what is put into the parks, and also ones that favor using Intellectual properties instead of original attractions. He consistently put himself and money above the product and quality of the company.

In early 2020 he became the CEO of the Walt Disney Company which was extremely concerning. Bob Chapek has made an excessive amount of budget cuts, even with the Covid-19 pandemic being considered. Budget cuts began before the pandemic began, and increased. He recently reinstated full executive salaries at Disney and also has laid off over 28,000 employees throughout the company. And now he is moving the focus to Disney plus, the current big moneymaker, instead of keeping the parks at high quality.

Normally you would think to keep the quality of the parks during a time of decreased revenue, but he is concerned about what will make him the most money quickest. Maintenance at the parks has also gotten its worst under Chapek and is not getting better. Chapek has proven he doesn’t care about the quality and legacy of Disney.

Josh D’Amaro, the current chairmen of parks and resorts, has not been able to do much under current circumstances but has been very involved in the parks, assuring quality, greeting guests, and even riding through new attractions to assure high quality. He even went out of his way to console and apologize to cast members throughout Disney World and Disneyland that were affected by the layoff.

So far he has proven an interest, and commitment to the parks, and a want to make them better. While he hasn’t been there long he has made a wonderful impression and could be a good replacement for Mr. Chapek. There are also probably many other executives in Disney that they could make their new CEO. Bob Chapek is hurting and tarnishing the name of the Company and needs to be removed.

So far it has gained 29,000 signatures in little more than a day.

You can see the petition here.

  1. We need a new Disney CEO that likes Splash Mountain along with Song of the South and wanting to Save Splash Mountain.

  2. My family lives in Panama City and we have been going to WDW faithfully several times a year since 2011. About 5 years ago you definitely started seeing a noticeable slide in park cleanliness and attitudes of Cast Members. My best friend from Nashville and his family joined us for a week in July at WDW. I didn’t say anything to him about the decline because I was hoping maybe it was just me. But by day three he remarked to me how Cast Members just don’t have that same level of enthusiasm they used to have, some outright rude which NEVER happened ten years ago, and how dirty the park and restrooms were. Anything that can be done to restore the magic, I support. I always measure the park by asking, “what would Walt think?” I think if Walt could see all the woke changes and the condition of the park today, he’d be outraged!

  3. How do you know this was started by retired imagineers? It doesn’t say so on the petition. It merely says it is rumored that some have signed it.

  4. I feel with the current changes the parks have lost the “magic” that has made them what they are. Along with trying to get a dollar for everything they can when what that had was working very well.

  5. I agree to seek another CEO for Disney Corp. I am an outsider to all of this, but I can see the parks degrading, prices up, morale down and even the Disney vloggers’ on YouTube have been knocked for a loop. In a world driven by capital, Disney always has been known to be above standards. Sure, sometimes Disney was a little pricy, but you knew you are getting more than “your money’s worth”. Disney has always been SOLID GOLD in a world of gold plating. Please don’t let one individual tarnish the gold or worse, make it gold plated!

  6. Totally agree. He definitely doesn’t hold a candle to Iger and I even had my beefs with him. I’m ok with the price increases within reason, but these latest adds are lackluster and aren’t worth the dollars we’re putting out. The parties are less than what they used to be, but cost has increased on those as well. We’re AYP & DVC fir Disney World and after my bday trip next month, we’re taking a break. He’s really ruining our families experiences by the way he’s diminishing the appeal of Disney n the first place. You can see the cost cutting measures where they matter to patrons like myself and in the CM quality. It’s truly sad. I wasn’t a fan upon meeting him virtually when he took over and it’s only gone downhill since. He can’t blame the pandemic, where do we sign as invested patrons and Walt Disney fans …..through history.

  7. It gets more expensive every day. Without excellence attendance will suffer. What has happened to Walt’s philosophy to always “plus it”? He did not mean the price. He would be so disappointed how his park is not affordable to so many families.

  8. Where do I sign? Are DVC owners starting one as well? He is ruining the magic and our family’s happy place!
