Regal Theatres to Hold Exclusive U.S. Premiere for Animated Feature ‘Monster Mia’
Regal is kicking off the spooky season with an exclusive theatrical release of Monster Mia, opening nationwide on Oct. 9. Following its world premiere earlier this year at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the animated feature makes its U.S. debut just in time for family Halloween movie outings.
A Monstrous School Secret Directed by Verena Fels, Monster Mia introduces audiences to 12-year-old Mia, a rebellious girl who has never quite fit in. When trouble at school lands Mia and her scruffy pet rat Quentin at the mysterious Rotwood Academy, she discovers a startling truth: her new classmates are actual monsters. Forced to hide her human identity, Mia must navigate the strange halls of her new school while learning to embrace what makes her unique.

The Austria, Spain, and Germany co-production was crafted by Vienna-based animation studio arx anima and distributed internationally by Sola Media. Based on A.B. Saddlewick’s Monstrous Maud book series, the film earned a spot in the official “Annecy Presents” lineup, highlighting top international animation talent.

Tickets and Loyalty Perks Advance tickets are available now at Regal box offices, automated kiosks, through the Regal mobile app, and online at REGmovies.com. Moviegoers can also take advantage of Regal’s membership programs: Regal Rewards+, which offers a free rolling monthly ticket and concession discounts, or Regal Unlimited, which allows subscribers to watch as many movies as they want, whenever they want.
