When most people think of Disney, the immediately associate “family” with the term.  Especially with the Disney Cruise Line.  Well, I’m here to tell you why the Disney Cruise Line is the perfect spot for your next girlfriends (or guyfriends) getaway!  There are so many itineraries throughout the world just waiting for you and your pals to explore, from 3+ nights.  The Bahamas and Caribbean are the perfect places for a quick getaway, while, if you have lots of time, Europe and the Mediterranean are top spots!

Onboard the ships, you will find space…tons of it!  Family-sized staterooms are perfect for groups of friends, giving everyone space.  And, if you are traveling with a larger group, connecting staterooms expand your living space.  If you choose a verandah stateroom, the partition can be moved to create a large, shared balcony.  What better way than starting your morning with seaside mimosas?!?!  The Disney Cruise Line also makes getting ready a breeze.  Their split bath design allows multiple people to get ready at the same time, which means you’ll be able to hit the dance floor sooner.

So back to my first point, when many people associate family with Disney, you may think that you are going to be surrounded by kids the entire trip.  This is totally not the case, as the Disney Cruise Line offers adult-exclusive areas for you to relax while onboard.  Soak up the sun at the Quiet Cove Pool and enjoy a beverage at the poolside bar.  On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, you can relax behind a gently falling rain curtain at Satellite Falls.  And don’t forget about the onboard spa- that provides the ultimate spot for relaxation onboard with a Rainforest room, tropical aromatherapy and heated chaise lounges.  Bliss!  The onboard spa provides a breathtaking, oceanview environment.  There are a number of treatments offered, such as massages, body wraps and facials.  And to take your spa experience to the next level, how about a massage in a private, oceanview cabana on Disney’s Castaway Cay?  Now we’re talking!!

If you are a parent, like me, the one thing you are most looking forward to on a getaway like this is sleeping in!  The Disney Cruise Line provides luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linens and plush pillows.  So when the morning sun starts to rise, you can roll over and enjoy an extra hour (or three!) of much needed rest.  When you are ready to head out, stop by the Cove Cafe, just for adults, and enjoy a gourmet coffee among friends.

I also love the experiences onboard the Disney Cruise Line.  There are many classes offered to provide a little extra fun to your voyage, such as cooking classes, wine tastings, yoga and spinning.  And while we’re on the topic of exercising, if you would like to keep your fitness routine in line while away, you can check out the fitness center, jog on the track or even run a 5K at Disney’s Castaway Cay.  Beach yoga is offered as well, with crystal clear water providing the perfect backdrop.

The best part of taking a friend getaway is being able to let loose and be a kid yourself.  From the water slides to mini golf, fooseball and basketball, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.  And, for the thrill seekers, don’t miss parasailing, paddle boarding, kayaking or sailing at Castaway Cay.  I hear the waterslide at Pelican Plunge is not to be missed either!

With any vacation, one of my favorite parts is enjoying new foods (and not having to cook!).  On the Disney Cruise Line, you can treat your tastebuds to top-notch cuisine.  Palo for brunch and dinner, features Northern Italian cuisine, classic reserve wines, stellar service and decadent desserts.  If you are looking for French-inspired cuisine, Remy does not disappoint!  My other favorite part is shopping!!  The shops onboard do not disappoint and you can find souvenirs, clothing, jewelry, perfume and other specialty items, like Dooney & Bourke’s Disney collection.  There’s even shopping at Castaway Cay, featuring beachwear, hats, pins and more at She Sells Sea Shells…and Everything Else!

After a full day of fun, unwind with your pals at one of the many lounges in the adult-exclusive areas.  This provides the perfect setting to recap the days activities and warm up your dancing shoes for a fun night ahead.

Ooh La La on the Disney Fantasy is inspired by an elegant French boudoir adorned with velvet tufted walls, Victorian furniture and Louis XIV-style chaise lounges. A sensuous color palette is accented with ornate framed mirrors, gold details and a “jewel box” feature bar backed with sparkling diamond-like facets. Exclusively for adult guests, the lounge is part of Europa, a nighttime entertainment district that celebrates European travel. (Matt Stroshane, photographer)
