Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Hollywood offers up a variety of Food & Drink Offerings
When you think of Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) at Universal Studios Hollywood, your mind might instantly race to the spine-chilling haunted houses. But there’s another layer to the terrifying tales told at HHN: the food and drinks. Far from being just mere refreshments, they’re an integral part of the narrative.
Each year, HHN takes inspiration from new movies, shows, and myths, offering guests a complete immersion. Beyond the haunted houses orchestrated by John Murdy and his team, the culinary team gives these tales a delectable twist, allowing fans to literally consume their favorite horror stories.
Universal Studios Hollywoodโs executive chef Julia Thrash and shared services manager Erick Massmann lead the creation of the Halloween Horror Nights menus each year. Their process of creating the HHN menus begins the moment they get wind of the upcoming HHN houses, which includes researching the ins and outs of each house’s backstory. Such diligence resulted in the crafting of the โStranger Thingsโ menu, which highlights the iconic Surfer Boy Pizza from the show.
The HHN culinary adventure ventures further into the wicked world of โChuckyโ this year. Despite her hesitations towards horror, Chef Julia had an absolute ball developing the meat-heavy “Chucky” menu, which features items like the โFriends to the Burnt Endsโ pulled pork sandwich and the โChucky’s Mac-assacre & Cheeseโ.
The drink offerings are another element that should not be missed. Erick Massmannโs approach to the HHN cocktail menu can be summed up in one word: theatrical. Whether it’s the candy hibiscus flower in the โUpside Downโ cocktail that unfolds like a Demogorgonโs head, or the pull-apart red licorice that crowns the โMind Flayerโ cocktail, each drink is an Instagram sensation waiting to happen.
Every ingredient has a story to tell. A striking example is the โWanna Play?โ cocktail, inspired by Chucky. With its playful appearance contrasted by a gory gummy eyeball centerpiece, it’s a drink that embodies the deceptive nature of its namesake.
The bar also pays homage to legendary figures of Latin American horror myths. From the vibrant Tlahuelpuchi Margarita to the haunting La Muerte cocktail, each drink at the Dรญa de los Muertos Bar is a toast to the monstrous legends of yore.
The next time you’re at Halloween Horror Nights, remember: it’s not just about the scares. It’s also about savoring every horror-infused bite and sip. And if you’ve already attended the event this year, which of the HHN treats tops your list? Share your favorites in the comments. We’re dying to know!

Nearly three decades after its animated TV debut, Gargoyles is set to soar again, this time in a live-action adaptation. A collaboration between two prominent figures in the realm of creature-focused content, Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s Atomic Monster production banner, renowned for their successful Annabelle horror film series, has come together to reimagine the 1990s animated show as a live-action series exclusively for Disney+.
Dauberman is slated to take on multiple roles, serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. Additionally, Atomic Monster, led by Wan and Michael Clear, will assume an executive producing role. This project is currently in its preliminary stages under the purview of Disney Branded Television.
Gargoyles was made by Walt Disney Television Animation and aired three seasons, from 1994 to 1997. The premise involved gargoyle statues moved from a castle in Scotland to modern-day New York. Once in the Big Apple, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and take on the mantle of protecting the city, becoming, as the showโs narration gravely said, โstone by day, warriors by night.โ
The series, created by Greg Weisman, came during a time of innovation in series animation, withย Gargoylesย riding a wave of shows with more complex storylines and darker tones that also includedย Batman: The Animated Seriesย andย X-Men. As with those shows,ย Gargoylesย burrowed into the consciousness of a generation of TV watchers who have given it cult status. Disney+ is also reviving X: Men 97 to touch upon such nostalgia in animation history.
While Disney hasnโt overtly tried to adapt the series into other formats, it did try to develop a gargoyles-in-modern-times feature in 2010 around the same time it madeย The Sorcererโs Apprentice. Apprentice disappointed at the box office, “Gargoyles” stalled out not too long afterward.
Gargoyles stands as a cherished relic from the golden age of animated television, where it captivated audiences with its unique blend of fantasy, complex storytelling, and compelling characters. As it takes flight once more in a live-action adaptation, led by accomplished names like Gary Dauberman and James Wan, there’s newfound excitement for both longtime fans and a new generation to witness the resurgence of these stone protectors in modern-day New York.

Antique Neon Sign Replaced at Curios Shop in Hollywood Studios
The antique neon sign at the Curios Shop in Hollywood Studios has been replaced. The neon marquee at Sid Cahuengaโs One-of-a-Kind has been replaced and more has been removed from the design.
The iconic Hollywood Boulevard establishment is the residence of Disney PhotoPass. While the upper part of the marquee, featuring the shop’s name, remains unchanged, the text immediately below has been updated to read “Tinseltown Photos” in place of “Antiques and Curios.”
The wording on the two stars has been updated as well. The left blue star now displays “Disney PhotoPass” in lieu of “Hollywood,” and the right orange star now states “Treasured Memories” instead of “TinselTown Treasures.”
The establishment used to offer a variety of Hollywood memorabilia, including movie-used props, costumes, framed autographed photos of Hollywood celebrities, and more. Its origin was rooted in a fictional narrative crafted by Walt Disney Imagineers, revolving around Sid Cahuenga, a film enthusiast who relocated to Hollywood and began amassing a collection of Hollywood artifacts. His collection eventually outgrew his home and transformed into a store. The name “Sid Cahuenga” was a tribute to Sid Grauman, the owner of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, which was the park’s original icon, and Cahuenga Boulevard, a prominent Hollywood thoroughfare. The “Antiques and Curios” label was appropriate when the store offered such items, but it has now been updated to reflect the current services provided by Disney PhotoPass.
What do you think about the sign change?
