Bob Iger says Disney could Build Seven New Lands Around the World
At the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference held yesterday, Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed the future trajectory of the company’s $60 billion investment in its Parks and Experiences division.
During the Q&A session focusing on Disney Parks, Iger addressed the company’s investment strategies, noting that 70 percent of the investment would be allocated towards expanding capacity.
When questioned about the specifics of increasing capacity, Iger elaborated on the extent of available land and how intellectual property (IP) could be utilized to accomplish this goal.
“We have thousands of acres of land still to develop. We could actually build seven new, full lands if we wanted to, around the world, including the ability to increase the size of Disneyland [Resort] in California, which everybody thinks is kind of land-locked, by 50 percent,” Iger said. “You can look at every single location that weโve got, and thereโs land, opportunity, but most importantly, we have so much IP to mine that thereโs opportunity there to create experiences that we know people will love to have in our parks.”
“If you look at our IP, you look at the land that we have, you look at the demand that exists in the marketplace, and you look at the return on investment capital, itโs a no-brainer to invest that way [โฆ] Itโs growing Parks and Resorts beyond where it already is.”
The expansion at Disneyland Resort, known as DisneylandForward, entails a proposed investment of at least $1.9 billion in new theme park features, attractions, and accommodations, contingent upon approval from the City of Anaheim.
Iger proceeded to outline potential additions, such as an “Avatar”-themed “land” for Disneyland Resort. He also mentioned the recently debuted World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland, Zootopia in Shanghai Disneyland, and Star Wars: Galaxyโs Edge at both Disneyโs Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park.
Disney has hinted at potential “blue sky” additions to Walt Disney World’s Disneyโs Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom, such as the “beyond Big Thunder Mountain” project and the potential revamp of DinoLand U.S.A. into a Tropical Americas land, with the possibility of DINOSAUR being transformed into an Indiana Jones attraction.

Disney CEO Bob Iger Says Avatar Experience Coming to Disneyland will be a ‘Land’
During yesterday’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Bob Iger revealed that the upcoming Avatar experience coming to Disneyland Resort will be a designated “land.”
During a question and answer session on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, discussed intentions to introduce an “Avatar” themed land in California.
During the earnings call on February 8, 2023, Iger initially unveiled plans for the “Avatar” experience, hinting that it would resemble a “version” of Pandora โ The World of Avatar, situated at Disneyโs Animal Kingdom. In March 2023, a D23 announcement indicated that the new endeavor would be equally “amazing” compared to its counterpart at Walt Disney World.
Initially, reports suggested that the “Avatar” experience would be constructed in Disney California Adventure. However, the company has since wavered on whether it will indeed be situated in that park.
Iger also raised the possibility of introducing additional Avatar-themed areas in other Disney Parks worldwide.
“We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. Weโre going to put a second one in in California [at Disneyland]. That doesnโt mean we canโt put one somewhere in Asia and somewhere in Europe, for instance,” Iger said.
This is the first time we’ve heard anyone at Disney label the Avatar experience as a “land”. We’re hoping to see more information be shared at D23 Expo this August!

Disney Cruise Line Boosts Support for Junior Junkanoo in Eleuthera, Inspiring Bahamian Youth
On Saturday, Disney Cruise Line united with the Eleuthera community in Governorโs Harbor to commemorate and endorse this yearโs Junior Junkanoo competition. Demonstrating their commitment, Disney Cruise Line has upped its support of Junior Junkanoo Eleuthera by 50%, now totaling $75,000. This increased funding will cover expenses such as costumes, materials, cash prizes for every participating school, and travel expenses for the victorious Eleuthera team to partake in the national competition.
Leading up to the competition, Disney Cruise Line (DCL) hosted a virtual workshop for students across Eleuthera, connecting them with the Disney entertainment team and acclaimed Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett. Disney Cruise Line recently announced that Elyett designed new Bahamian-inspired outfits for Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their friends to wear at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, DCLโs new island destination opening this summer on Eleuthera.
โDCLโs investment is about more than costumes and competition. We want to help preserve this important cultural expression and inspire young people to ensure the Junkanoo tradition continues for years to come,โ said Joey Gaskins Jr., regional public affairs director, DCL. โThrough connecting students participating in Junior Junkanoo with Disneyโs entertainment professionals and Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett, we hope to inspire young Bahamians and show them how their talents can lead to careers in creative industries.โ
